About

As a speech-language pathologist, I am passionate about helping people communicate. Whether I am working with a young child just saying her first words, securing an AAC device to help a non-verbal client speak his mind, or teaching a class on supporting social development for children with autism, I strive to empower clients and their families to become the experts on managing the communication challenges they're facing, so they can make the changes they want to see.

As the parent of a child with autism, I know how important it is for the professionals in our lives to help us as a family develop the skills we need, and to give us real world ways to incorporate those skills into our lives every day. I focus every therapy session on your family's real life questions and concerns, so that when I leave you know what to do next to meet your goals for your child.

I received my master's degree in communication sciences and disorders from the University of Georgia in 2008, and have worked as a speech-language pathologist in a variety of settings since that time, including a stint as the only SLP ever to live and work on Catalina Island. Before opening Speech 101, I spent three years with Lucia Mar USD, working with students with a wide variety of disabilities at Arroyo Grande High School.

I hold a national certification in speech-language pathology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), a CA state license in speech-language pathology, and a California Speech Language Pathology Services credential. I am a proud member of ASHA Special Interest Group 1, Language Learning and Education, and serve in a volunteer capacity on their Professional Development Committee. I am also a member of ASHA Special Interest Group 12, Augmentative and Alternative Communication. I recently received an Award for Continuing Education (ACE) from ASHA, acknowledging my commitment to continually updating my knowledge and honing my skills in my field.

When not working with clients, I enjoy exploring the Central Coast with my husband and two sons, homeschooling our older son, and carrying home way more books from the library than I will ever have time to read.

I look forward to hearing from you and am happy to answer any questions you may have about whether speech and language services would be beneficial for you and your family.
